Its an unusual combination of guide book, a history book and a memoir and its wonderfully researched. It's written in pithy, easy to read style . Victoria has captured the essence of what makes TamilNadu so fascinating - its incredible history and temples. Her descriptions of the sculptures in Mamallapuram alone is worth the price of the book. Her concise write up on the Pallava , Chola and Pandya dynasties provides a magnificent background so necessary to truly appreciate these fabulous temples - in Madurai, Kanchipuram, Chidambaram, Thanjavur, Tiruchirapalli and more cities . What I really like about this book is that after reading this you are certain not to miss anything important to see in TamilNadu and this book equips you to experience these temples in a much more meaningful way.
